Gee, its been a while since I've updated! x.x Unfortunately, life has just been in the way lately lol I still get on and look around when I can, but my computer has taken a nosedive and my job search has taken priority.

Graduation was May 2nd, and it was a blast! ~DarkZodiacChaos, ~ForgottenandAlone, and myself afterward went to Baltimore for a fantastic Nightwish concert (which hopefully I will have some pictures of soon) and then went to Kentucky to see J.R. Ward (successfully this time!) I highly recommend one of her signings if ever you have the opportunity! My birthday was May 18 (thank you for all your birthday messages! ), so it was all great timing

With luck, I'll soon be employed and back in business, so to speak. And updating more regularly!

Winter Solstice Contest Winners!

Finally, we have the Winners!! ~DarkZodiacChaos and I collaborated on the judging, with ~DarkZodiacChaos acting as the main judge in this instance. With the winners below, she has supplied a short rationale for her choices, with which I wholeheartedly agree. A news article featuring the winners and prize donors will be released shortly. 1st Place:

I loved everything about this picture and found that its originality and style put it apart from the others that were entered into the contest. The Solstice is a winter holiday, the longest night of the year, and a symbol of rebirth. I feel that the picture really draws out the pagan origins of the Winter Solstice: the people dancing about the bon fire beneath a star-studded sky, the snow laying fresh and crisp upon the ground, even the mountains give the illusion of some deep and ancient. I also enjoyed the rabbit being thrown into the composition, observing a very human tradition, where the wilds and humanity are able to touch on the edge of magic.
~carizzio also paid very close attention to detail. I love the trail left by the rabbit, the frost clinging to the slender blades of grass sprouting up through the snow, I love the ring of burning poles encircling the bonfire. Amazing job at bringing out what I felt was a very creative way of portraying the subject.

2nd Place:

Women emerging from the snow seemed a popular theme for the Winter Solstice but I thought this one was perhaps the best out of all those presented. I have a since of temperature in this image- the trees are bare, everything is cast in dull shades of white and gray, and the elements draw the eye to the single occupant of the picture. I think my favorite part of this picture is the attire that she is wearing. I love the headpiece that could be composed of frost and ice while the cloth of her gown seems made of something soft and delicate… like snow. Her expression reminds me of a ruler or someone of noble blood: proud and self-composed. These elements help make this being into a flesh representation of the Winter Solstice.

3rd Place:

The balance in this picture is amazing. The representation of the cosmic elements is represented beautifully in this piece- *Ardanae has used the symbols of male and female in this picture and words cannot describe the wonderful illustration this artist creates for the Winter Solstice. I love how the cloak they are wrapped in is studded with stars and the fur that rims the edges can be an indication to the cold night ahead. Wonderful composition.

Classes have started up again, and I've only just gotten back from the bookstore... x.x Thankfully, though, my book total wasn't terribly bad (at least not compared to some past semesters). lol Hopefully there will be some new work in my gallery soon, seeing as how its been practically forever. And I've also updated my features, too

In more somber news, I checked my messages to find that our fellow deviant has suffered a great loss in her life. I would urge everyone to offer her support and your prayers during this difficult time.

Hughes Net is officially my God. We finally have some decent internet access at home! We've never been able to get any other hispeed connection because it hasn't been available in our area, but we've managed to get Hughes Net which picks up from satellite. So... HAPPINESS! And hopefully no more disappearing Winter Break ends this weekend, so I'll be back at school. Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Christmas/New Years!
